Our commitment to purchase two “Smilyscope” for the New Emergency Department of Monash Children Hospital

During our “Gala Dinner of 21st September 2019” Friends of the Children Foundation committed to purchase two “Smilyscope” for the New Emergency Department of Monash Children Hospital.

Smileyscope was developed by Melbourne doctors combining therapeutic distraction, relaxation and cognitive-behavioural therapies.

It takes patients on an underwater adventure that allows them to virtually escape the hospital room. They are immersed in an interactive 3D world.

This patented approach is led by Pogles the Penguin who explains what is happening each step of the way.

Smileyscope relaxes patients, allowing them to reimagine needles being fish  gently nibbling at their arm to say hello.

On growing demand and Need of these “Smileyscope” in the Children Emergency Department, During our 8th Monash Children Walk of 1st March 2020, we aim to raise more funds to purchase Two more Smilyscopes.

PLEASE HELP & SUPPORT THIS INITIATIVE

Community Environmental Forum 2020 Recap

On 9th February 2020 at Brickmakers Park, Oakleigh “Friends of the Children Foundation” celebrated its 1st Australia Day Community Environmental Forum successfully. Some school principals guided us to move our Australia Day celebrations into February to avoid a clash with school holidays and the long weekend.

Our theme, “How to keep this Lucky country……LUCKY, was well attended by 175-200 guests. Our new format was well received, and they appreciated and enjoyed the artwork of many young school children. It was very encouraging to see the crowd participation despite the Corona virus scare.

We were very buoyed by some very positive and encouraging feedback. During our general discussions, one lady said, “Don’t you think the ship has already sailed”. It took me few seconds to understand and reply to this comment. My comeback was “If we keep standing here and keep talking, ship will move further and further. We all have to work together and work harder to swim and catch the ship, before it is out of our reach”

To create a better future for our coming generations, we must all work hard together to create a better tomorrow. We must work in such a way that we ensure that we are going to leave this world in better order and condition than we inherited it in.

This was our 12th Australia day community get together and 5th, on a theme with the support of local primary schools’ children. Our next year’s theme will be same – “How to keep this lucky country ……LUCKY”. We will be celebrating it on February 14th, 2021. The venue remains the same, Brickmakers Park, Stamford Road Oakleigh.

Please come and join us on this day and help us create a better tomorrow for our future generations.

Friends of Children Foundation used to celebrate this day with the local primary school children on Australia day to promote Togetherness, Harmony and Respect for each other. [Event] Volunteer Appreciation Day, Apr24

Invitation 24th April

Dear Friends,

Time is your most precious gift because you only have a set amount of it. You can make more money, but you can’t make more time. When you give someone your time, you are giving them a portion of your life that you’ll never get back. Your time is your life. That is why the greatest gift you can give someone is your time.

You all have given your time for a good cause and now it is our turn to acknowledge that and appreciate that. We would like to invite you for a barbecue lunch on 24th April at Jells Park, please see attached invitation for more details.

One of a “side effect” of volunteering is that you can make new friends, so this is the opportunity to do just that. Come and join us to celebrate the spirit of volunteering. As someone very correctly said;

“WE MAKE A LIVING BY WHAT WE GET OR EARN, BUT WE MAKE A LIFE BY WHAT WE GIVE”

Kindly RSVP by 18th April. Email me, call me or call the numbers on the invitation.

Shashi Kochhar – 0411415490 / 95648228
